[理论室学术报告] Multichannel Dynamics and Novel Spin Texture in the Spin-Orbit Coupled System

Abstract

In this talk, we investigate the nonadiabatic dynamics of a driven spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) in both weak and strong driven force and the magnetic phases of a bilayer system of ultracold bosons in the presence of Raman-induced spin-orbit (SO) coupling and laser-assisted interlayer tunneling. In the former, we will show how the multichannel tunneling and interatomic interaction affect the Landau-Zener (LZ) tunneling of the spin-orbit-coupled BEC. In the latter, for the bilayer system in the Mott-insulating regime, we will discuss how the Raman-induced SO coupling and laser-assisted interlayer tunneling produce a rich set of spin textures including hetero-ferromagnetic, heterochiral magnetic, and chiral magnetic phases with interlayer antiferromagnetic. The detailed experimental setup is proposed for the desired interactions in the system of cold alkali-metal atoms.   

Biography

Dr. Bo Xiong worked in the aspect of the dynamics of Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) during his PhD at the University of Nottingham and got his doctoral degree in 2009. After he had a short-stay in Free University Berlin, he started his first postdoctoral work in the Prof. Uwe Fischer’s group in the Seoul National University. The major work in this period concerned on many-body physics in cold atoms. Hereafter Dr. Xiong got a short stay, separately, in the Prof. Antum Balaz’ group in Belgrade and in the Prof. Hui Zhai’s group in the Tsinghua University. Before he became a faculty in Wuhan University of Technology, he performed his second postdoctoral work in the area of spin-orbit coupled BEC in the Prof. Daw-Wei Wang’s group in the National Tsinghua University.
