个人简介:
Prof. Luming Duan received both his bachelor (in 1994) and Ph.D degree (in 1998) in physics from the University of Science and Technology of China. He joined the faculty of physics department at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 2003, tenured in 2007, and promoted to full professor in 2010. He has published 95 papers in prestigious physics journals (including 6 in Nature, 2 in Science, and 28 in PRL), with a total citation about 6000 times. He has received a number of recognitions, including the A. P. Sloan fellowship, the outstanding young researcher award from the Oversea Chinese Physics Association, and the Henry Russel Award from the University of Michigan. He was elected to fellow of the American Physical Society in 2009.

Abstract:
A quantum computer holds the promise to solve certain important problems intractable with any classical computer.  It can also be used to simulate any strongly correlated many-body models, which represent a long-standing challenging problem in physics. The major challenge in quantum information science is to realize large scale quantum computation in a scalable system. In this talk, I will review the recent progress towards realization of scalable quantum computation and simulation with the trapped ion and the ultracold atomic gas systems.
