报告摘要:
Research’s progresses in rechargeable batteries are driven by ever increasing demands for portable electronic devices as well as for powering electric vehicles and providing load-leveling for mass storage of renewable energy. Li-ion batteries are the systems of choice for the aforementioned applications. Therefore, for this to fully happen, new concepts and new sustainable chemistries are sorely needed, and this is what this presentation will address. Firstly, with regard to new concepts, we will demonstrate how the reversible formation of anionic dimers (O-O) is a transformational approach to creating lithium-rich layered oxides with increased capacity. Next, we will discuss the recent advances and remaining challenges of solid-state lithium batteries in the context of higher energy density systems... Our new findings in sustainable chemistry, which involve novel materials and electrolyte designs that have led to the practical development of Na-ion technology, will be equally detailed. Finally, we will present the benefits of adding optical sensing functionality to a battery to enhance its lifetime. In conclusion, I will highlight the new opportunities that the field of electrochemical storage could offer materials scientists, provided they are willing to take risks.
